Introduction to Chiang Mai, Thailand
Chiang Mai is located in northern Thailand and has a totally different feel than the South, Central, and Eastern parts of Thailand. Chiang Mai has a laid-back feeling and it is no wonder guests are eager to return time after time, once visited.
The city is relatively small, and the airport is located very centrally making it easy and convenient to quickly reach most hotels from the Airport.
The cultural influences are also noticeable in every corner of the city and make it a truly unique experience. There are a lot of attractions in and around the city but one of the, “must-do”, is to visit the famous mountain Doi Suthep (1.676m) located west of Chiang Mai, visit the Night Bazaar and stroll along the Mae Ping River. The Night Bazaar is the main attraction to visit at night. You find both a lot of different things at the market, but also a variety of food to try.
There are many very good and unique hotels located within walking distance to the night bazaar and also on the riverside next to the Mae Ping River.
Chiang Mai is the main city in Northern Thailand and will be part of most round trips in this part of the country. You can arrive by van, train, or flight depending on the destination. The best time to visit Chiang Mai is October – February. There are many daily arrivals and departures from the nearby airport and a visit here can easily be combined with a beach holiday in the South.
