Rungus, Ethnic People of Kudat
A visit to Kudat is a visit to one of the most exciting places in Sabah, Borneo. Kudat is the most northern district of Sabah and home to the Rungus people. The Rungus community is one of Sabah’s most traditional ethnic groups and it is a very exciting experience to learn about their lifestyle and culture.
Tip of Borneo
Kudat is also home to the most Northern point of Borneo, also called the “Tip of Borneo”. The tip is where the South China Sea meets the Sulu Sea.
Kudat Beach at Tip of Borneo
Next to the Tip, you will also find kilometres of white sandy beach. There are usually only a handful of people on the beach so you can literally enjoy the whole stretch as your own private beach. The area around the tip got a few small basic shops and restaurants.
Accommodation
There are not many choices of accommodations in the Kudat area. Most visitors will stay in the Tip of Borneo area where you find a few basic chalets or you can stay in a Traditional Rungus Long House (very basic).
Gombizao Honey Beer Farm
If you a heading to Kudat, Gombizao Village is worth a visit. Gombizao is located south of Kudat. Consumption and production of honey have been going on for generations at Gombizao and for the past many years Gombiazao Honey Farm has produced honey for its own consumption and to support the local community financially. The farm has over a hundred honeycombs and you will learn how the village manage the farm. You can get a taster of pure raw honey from the honeycombs. If you like the taste you might want to buy a bottle with you home from the shop. The farm also has rubber trees where visitors can learn the traditional way of rubber tapping.
