Introduction to Brunei
Brunei is located on the northeast coast of the island of Borneo. Apart from its coastline with the South China Sea, the country is completely surrounded by the Malaysian state of Sarawak.
Brunei is the only sovereign state completely on the island of Borneo. The tiny nation’s population is around 450,000. The government is an absolute monarchy ruled by the Sultan of Brunei.
Brunei is a wealthy country, thanks to its many oil fields, and the capital Bandar Seri Begawan is well developed.
Brunei is covered in lush rainforest, dotted with beautiful mosques, and blessed with amazing food.
How to get to Brunei?
From Brunei, there are flight connections to and from Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Singapore, and Kuching. With a 2-hour drive to the Malaysian city of Miri, visitors are also able to fly directly to the beautiful Mulu National Park in Sarawak, Malaysia.
Most leisure travellers will stay for 2 or 3 nights in Brunei in combination with visits to the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak.
