Introduction to Koh Mak, Thailand
Koh Mak is a small Island located next to Koh Kood and Koh Chang in the eastern Gulf of Thailand close to the Cambodian border. This beautiful Island is a quiet gem and suitable for both families and couples who are looking for a relaxing holiday. There is not much car traffic and the Island is relatively flat, so it’s perfect for biking and exploring. The nearby Marine Park has also some of the best marine life Thailand has to offer.
The best time to visit the Island is November – March with steady weather and plenty of sunshine. Koh Mak Island is still very local compared to other Islands in Thailand. 3 & 4-star hotels on the Island have a more local and unique vibe that feels far away from the more common 4-star resorts on the mainland. The typical guest stays on the Island between 2-5 Nights before moving on to the next destination.
The Island can easily be reached by both speedboats and high-speed catamarans that have several daily departures from both nearby islands, Koh Kood and Koh Chang, and the mainland. The duration of the transfer depends on the route but is typically around 1-2 hours. Transfers from Bangkok is mostly done by land. If flights are preferred the nearest airport is Trat from where a transfer can be arranged.
We inform the hotel in advance when guests will be arriving so they can pick up the guests at the pier and also send them to the pier upon departure.
