Day 1: Arrival Sandakan

Pick up at the airport followed by transfer to your hotel in Sandakan.

Sandakan is the gateway to many of the biggest nature and wildlife experiences in Borneo.

Day 2: Sandakan / Selingan Turtle Island

We will pick you up and transfer you to Sandakan Jetty for one hour boat journey to Selingan Turtle Island. Check-in and spend the day at leisure, swimming or snorkelling.

After dinner, you will be divided into small groups while waiting for the signal from the park ranger for the appropriate time to see the turtles lay eggs on the beach.

You will also have the opportunity to witness the eggs being transferred to the hatchery from the nesting site and the release of the baby turtles onto the shore. Overnight at the island chalet.

Day 3: Selingan Turtle Island / Sandakan / Sepilok / Sukau

Depart to the mainland after breakfast and proceed to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Watch a short video documentary of the rehabilitation activities before taking a boardwalk through the lowland rainforest to witness the feeding of the Orangutans at 10:00 am. Thereafter visit the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre to learn about the conservation of the world’s smallest bear.

After lunch, transfer to the multi awards winning Sukau Rainforest Lodge along Sabah’s longest river, Kinabatangan with the opportunity to view birds and wildlife in virgin mangrove, wetland and rainforest habitats. After check-in and afternoon refreshment, we take a river cruise using electric motor in search of some of the 10 primate species. Sukau is home to Borneo pygmy elephants, orangutans, proboscis monkeys and all eight species of hornbills in Borneo.

Return for a solar-heated hot shower, candlelight dinner overlooking the riverbank followed by a slide show and interpretation by naturalist guide. Overnight in Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

Day 4: Sukau, Kinabatangan River

Wake up to the calls of gibbons and hornbills and hot Sabah tea!

At 6.00 am, you will go on a morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to Kelenanap oxbow lake to view more birds and wildlife. After breakfast, proceed to have an educational tour at our own in-house Hornbill Boardwalk, located behind the lodge with the in-house naturalist.

In the afternoon, you will proceed to have another river cruise for more wildlife sightings. Overnight stay at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

Day 5: Sukau / Sandakan

After breakfast, return to Sandakan. Visit to Rainforest Discovery Centre. Take a bird view of the centre from the canopy walk and hanging bridge before exploring the botanical garden, home to various species of flora. We will then transfer you to your hotel for the night.

Day 6: Sandakan / Kundasang

We leave the East coast and Sandakan behind us and drive inland towards the massive Mount Kinabalu. You will stay in the small village Kundasang for the night, close to Mount Kinabalu.

Day 7: Mount Kinabalu

Transfer to Timpohon Gate to start ascending for approximately 4-6 hours to Laban Rata at 3272 meters above sea level. Take your time to enjoy the colourful rhododendrons, pitcher plants, wild orchids and other interesting vegetation along the trail. Overnight in Mountain hut dormitory room.

Day 8: Mount Kinabalu summit / Kota Kinabalu

Start climbing at 2.00 am to reach the summit (Low’s Peak, 4,095 m) by dawn to catch the sunrise at 6 am Enjoy a breathtaking view from the peak before returning to the mountain hut for breakfast. Descend to Park Headquarters afterwards. Return to Kota Kinabalu to stay for the night.

Day 9: Departure Kota Kinabalu

Transfer out to Kota Kinabalu International Airport for your departure flight.
